There is a quote that I like that is a fabulous metaphor for life.
“The reason the windshield is so large, and the rearview mirror is so small, is because what's happened in your past is not near as important as what's in your future.”
― Joel Osteen
In other words, what is happened to you in the past, it does not define you. And it is nowhere near as important as your future and where you want to go.
If you feel stuck right now, stop looking in the rear-view mirror. If you put too much time and energy into thinking, talking, and dwelling on the past, you will go nowhere. That shit is behind you. It is time to look ahead.
Imagine yourself putting your hands on the steering wheel, throwing that gear into drive and moving your life forward. Just like driving a car, if you want to go somewhere new, you cannot get there in reverse. You must look ahead. That is why the windshield is so big - so you can see where you are going!
How do you look ahead? Start focusing your time and energy on what you want to create. Talk about it. Visualize it. Follow other drivers who are ahead of you on the same road. Ask for directions.
Wherever your attention goes, that is where your life will head. So, stop looking in the rearview mirror and look ahead - that is where you’re going.
